Cheddar Festive Night

It was great to see so many people participating in Cheddar Festive Night last night, with a huge array of stalls and thousands of people coming into the village to enjoy the stalls, shops, events and to meet Santa. Gough's Cave was open for a charitable donation and the Cheddar Valley Singers performed a fantastic assortment of modern takes on carols.

With the gorge and Cliff Street closed to traffic, families were able to enjoy the space in a way that they rarely can. It would be lovely to see more public events like this throughout the year.

Cheddar Gorge should be an asset for the local community, rather than a distraction. Our discussions with the police include the potential closure of the Gorge to traffic at certain times over the weekends and installing noise cameras that penalise drivers in deliberately noisy cars, as well as a more visible police presence.

The government in Westminster has made life hard for small businesses recently and the Council has sat back and watched shops close and unemployment rise.We want to encourage local businesses to thrive, not tax them to the hilt and smother them in red tape.
