Somerset Council confirms A38 speed limit through Tarnock will remain at 40mph

At a busy meeting in Axbridge Town Hall, the area traffic engineer has confirmed that the speed limit through Tarnock, between Rooksbridge and Biddisham, will remain at 40mph instead of rising to 50mph.

Aileen Fletcher answered many questions from residents of Tarnock about the speed limit through their village and confirmed that it will stay at 40mph even after the Hinkley Connection works are completed and the bell entrance to their site is closed up.

Ms Fletcher was also asked in the meeting if she would consider reducing the speed limit to 30mph in line with other sites along the route and agreed to share the analysis that led her to believe it won't be considered.

The meeting was primarily concerned with the proposals to Government to invest in the A38 corridor between Edithmead and Bristol Airport. Three areas of improvement have been proposed: a new roundabout layout at Edithmead, a staggering of the junction at Cross and some minor changes in Rooksbridge. Unfortunately, the plans for the latter show 50mph signs for northbound traffic entering Tarnock.

Other residents in the meeting challenged Somerset Council on why the plans don't take into account more walking or cycling.
