Revised plans have been submitted for the Yeo Valley brownfield site on the A371 in Cheddar. It's almost 8 years after the original scheme was proposed, including 100 houses and a 60-bed care home + 12 extra care units, a nursery and business units. Those plans were approved in November 2020, then revised by Homes England and re-approved in November 2024.
Now, new plans have been put forward by Woodstock Homes Ltd, which include 56 homes including 3 with 'live/work' units for people running small businesses. Only 8 of the homes will be deemed 'affordable'. There will be 161 parking spaces.
Tree planting features more heavily in the new plans, creating a buffer to the north and the neighbouring campsite.
Its is likely to come before committee before Christmas 2026.
Graham, who opposes building on greenbelt, cautiously welcomes the changes: "With a clean slate I would sooner turn the Yeo Valley site back to nature, with native tree species as an extension to the surrounding countryside.
"However, we are where we are and there does seem to be care and thought put into this application.
"The age-old concerns remain though: can our amenities in Cheddar - especially doctors and dentists - cope? If the council wants to add more houses, then more needs to be done to provide the services that new residents, and existing ones, need.
"With more than a hundred more cars joining the A371 at that location, redesigning the Magic Roundabout becomes even more important."
