Local campaigner Graham Godwin-Pearson has met with Tessa Munt MP to discuss the current consultation on school foods, which seems to completely ignore middle schools, such as Fairlands and Hugh Sexey.
Graham says, "To support the health of our local children, the government must reconsider its consultation, so that middle schools are included in guidance. Not doing so increases complexity and cost for our caterers - which is passed on of course - and risks failing thousands of local kids.
"Unfortunately, the consultation has come out after the policy was announced, which is my view is the wrong way around. Why tell people what you will do, then ask for their opinion?"
Tessa Munt is the Liberal Democrat MP for Wells and Mendip Hills.
Graham says, "Being partisan on an issue as important as school food is counterproductive. We may not agree on everything, but I'm hoping to work with Tessa not the school food standards policy, so that the government sees sense."
