It is fantastic to see the Strawberry Line officially crowned Britain’s Favourite Path 2026 by the Ramblers: a richly deserved national recognition for one of Somerset’s greatest assets.
Local council campaigner Graham Godwin-Pearson says, "For those of us in Cheddar and Axbridge, the Strawberry Line is much more than a leisure route. It provides a safe, largely traffic-free way to walk, cycle and travel between our communities, while bringing visitors into the area and opening up our beautiful countryside to people of all ages and abilities.
"Most importantly, this award is a tribute to the extraordinary volunteers who have worked for decades to create, extend and maintain the Line. From clearing vegetation and planting trees to improving the route and campaigning for new sections, thousands of hours of voluntary effort have gone into making it what it is today.
"Congratulations to everyone involved."
