A few weeks ago, several residents pointed out to Graham Godwin-Pearson that the gullies running down both sides off the coombe onto the top of Church Lane in Compton Bishop were blocked and haven't been cleared in years.
Graham reported the issue to the council that day, and Somerset Highways have replied to say that they have subsequently cleared these gullies.
He says, "Church Lane becomes a river when there's heavy rain, which over time damages the road surface, and with blocked gullies, there's nowhere else for the water to go. With hardened ground caused by the recent heatwaves, once it does start to rain, there's the very possibility of water entering properties.
"It's good to see Highways taking the issue seriously. I'll walk up and take a look when chance permits.
"In the meantime, if you live on Church Lane do let me know what work has been done and whether the gullies carry rainwater away next time it rains."
