The police have closed Cheddar Gorge 13 times in 6 months to tackle anti-social driving.
The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) was implemented in August last year and gives the police powers to close sections of the Gorge.
In addition, police officers have recorded more than 400 traffic offences (including speeding and drink- or drug-driving) in the Gorge area in the last two months alone.
With a reported increase in car meets at the Gorge, police have told us that they are increasing their patrols.
Local campaigner Graham Godwin-Pearson says, "The TTRO helps to disperse car meets when they are considered dangerous, but I would like to see a more permanent solution that balances the needs of local residents, local businesses and the natural environment. The Gorge is for everyone - not just a select few."
